GoZone is a numerical model that solves mass balance and energy balance equations to compute the evolution of the temperatures in a fire compartment.

Classical zone model

GoZone

Shape of the compartment

Only the floor area (in m²) and the perimeter (in m) are considered.

The real shape of the compartment is considered.

Position of the openings

Real position along the perimeter is not considered.

The precise position along the perimeter is considered (important in case of air control situation).

Distribution of the full load

Uniform on a certain area.

Can vary from place to place on the floor

Fire propagation

Predetermined by the RHR curve.

Computed by the code as a function of a critical ignition energy of the fuel load(s).

Air control

On/off in the whole compartment.

Affects only some zones of the floor area.

Main outcome

Hot zone temperature and height of the clear zone.

Idem + radiant flows across the whole compartment.

Interface with F.E. structural codes

Has to be made via time temperature curves.

Automatic to SAFIR.
