Building Materials Laboratory

The Building Materials Laboratory (LMC) is active, competent and equipped to analyze the mechanical and physico-chemical properties of building materials.

 PIC0354 1000

The main types of materials treated are

  • mortars and concretes
  • repair products
  • cements and hydraulic binders other than cement (lime, plaster, etc.)
  • road markings (paints, hot and cold coatings)
  • waterproofing sheets (based on bitumen, elastomers or modified thermoplastics)
  • plastics
  • synthetic resins
  • materials recycled from construction and demolition waste, industry and agriculture

The laboratory's role is to provide its customers with information on product quality, at three different levels: (i) checking properties, (ii) determining characteristics, and (iii) fine-tuning the product according to the properties to be achieved.

The laboratory is also developing internationally renowned activities in the use and development of alternative supplementary cementing materials and their impact on the hydration process and the mechanical performance of mortars and concretes.

The LMC collaborates with national and international bodies(American Concrete Institute, International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Building Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM)) in the development of new materials and the fine-tuning of analysis and property quantification procedures.

Since 2009, the Building Materials Laboratory has been accredited to ISO 17025(BELAC 380-TEST certificate )
