The SurChauffe and OCCuPANt projects consortiums organises a scientific seminar and technical workshop from 16 - 17 June 2022 at University of Liège, Belgium. The focus of this event is the impacts of climate change on the indoor environment and energy performance of buildings in Belgium during the summer season.

This one-day seminar aims to create a platform for the exchange of knowledge and best practices in the field of overheating in the buildings between the participants and the stakeholders. The seminar will also feature four different keynote speeches from eminent speakers and scholars in the field of Indoor Thermal Comfort, HVAC systems, Indoor Air Quality, and Climatology, which will walk us through the current strategies, developments, and the tools and tactics in the field of built environment. In addition, the networking event at the end of the seminar gives the participants an opportunity to meet and interact with other professionals. We hope that the seminar will provide an enriching experience for all the participants.

Target Audiences: PhD students and Postdocs

This one-day workshop session aims at the assessment of overheating risks and energy performance in buildings by using building dynamic simulations. It consists of four stages.

  • The first stage will include the basics of the DesignBuilder software. DesignBuilder is a user-interface for EnergyPlus engine to conduct building performance simulations.
  • The second stage will describe and compare different overheating evaluation methods that are introduced in the standards and scientific literature.
  • The third stage will be composed of a framework to evaluate and compare different cooling strategies in terms of resilience against overheating impacts of climate change, energy performance, and CO2 emissions.
  • The fourth stage will comprise an overheating assessment for a simple shoebox building model using two different cooling strategies.

All the participants will be issued a certicate of participation for the event.
